Yan Wang, originally from Inner Mongolia, China, pursued her undergraduate studies in Shanghai before earning a master’s degree in public policy at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. After graduation, she launched her career in the Maryland and D.C. area doing health and education policy research. In 2019, Yan relocated to Bloomington, Indiana, with her husband, where they welcomed a daughter. Currently, she serves as the Treasurer of the First Generation Professionals organization at Notre Dame Law School. During summer 2023, she interned at the Court of Appeals of Indiana and supported two professors with research at both the Law School and Notre Dame's Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities (LEO).
Outside of her academic and professional life, Yan enjoys reading, cooking, and watching "Friends." She lists Malcolm Gladwell as her favorite author and "Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind" as her top book. An entrepreneur at heart, Yan founded a business investing in rental properties. Notably, she is the sole mother in her 2025 law school class and once survived a black bear encounter while hiking in Shenandoah National Park, Virginia.
